Today’s DOTD - Drink Of The Day - is called an East India No. 1, inspired by the first modern use of fingerprint identification, which reportedly happened on this date, in 1858. It happened when a British public servant named William Herschel, of the Indian civil service in Jungipur, India, needed a way to make sure local Indian soldiers weren’t trying to game the pension system. So he had them make a palm print on their pension documents, so he could identify who they were, and make sure only the correct person got their pension payment.
