A Drink That Might Help You Live A Long Life
Today’s DOTD - Drink Of The Day - is a Nuclear Waste cocktail inspired by Keith Richards, who was born on December 18, 1943, in Dartford, England. Happy birthday, Keith!
The Nuclear Waste cocktail? Keith claims to have invented the drink:
For what it’s worth, Keith Richards did coin the term “Nuclear Waste” for his signature potent mix of vodka and orange soda (often Sunkist), which he drank for years as his go-to cocktail, though he eventually gave it up for a cleaner lifestyle. He’d mix vodka with orange soda when he couldn’t get his usual drinks, finding the combination surprisingly refreshing and naming it for its strong effect and bright color.
For the record, Keith is mostly booze-free since 2018, though he still does “like a drink occasionally– because I’m not going to heaven any time soon..” But reportedly, his bandmates feel it’s easier to work with Keith these days.
Speaking of his bandmates, Keith and The Rolling Stones put out a really solid album just a couple of years ago in 2023, Hackney Diamonds, and they released a live version of the album this year.
For the record, we can’t verify this drink might help extend your life. Then again, Keith is 82 today, so maybe it helped him.
Either way, while you’re waiting for your holiday gift to yourself to arrive, you can make yourself today’s Drink of The Day, a Nuclear Waste cocktail, and give a great birthday salute to Keith Richards,
